Pirate Gold of Adak - Netflix Docuseries
I put on this fun little Netflix docuseries last week for some background noise. I thought it was fun enough to make some pages and recommend it.
The series definitely made me want to visit Adak! Or at least visit the other Aleutian Islands - it is so dang beautiful.
There is obviously a lot of history, especially WWII history, on this island as well as, I’m sure, the islands occupied by Japanese forces during that time.
I did wish they shared more about the Aleut people who were native to the island, but I suppose it didn't come up much in the search for the gold. Maybe next season!
The show follows a group of people looking for gold supposedly buried by a seal trader named Gregory Dwargstof.
“Gregory Dwargstof was the captain of the Hitslop back in the 1800s. At the time, Gregory worked for an illegal seal poaching ring. They killed these animals for their skin and oil. He eluded authorities for several years, spending most of the 19th century evading capture. But as per the show, that changed in 1892 when United States warships caught up to his fleet.” read more from the cinemaholic
