Connecticut is the 29th most populous and the 48th most extensive of the 50 states of the United States. It lies in the northeastern region of the United States. The state attained statehood on January 9, 1788, becoming the 5th state to join the union. Its three bordering states are New York, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.
