How did Montana get its name: Montana’s name comes from the Spanish word “Montaña” and the Latin word “Montana,” which means “mountain” or “mountainous country.”

The state was given its name by Spanish explorers.

Montana holds the world record for the greatest temperature change in 24 hours. In just a day's time the temperature rose a whopping 103 degrees Fahrenheit.

The highest point in Montana is Granite Peak, located in the Beartooth Range in the Rockies.

Montana has  two state gemstones, agate and sapphire.

The state is known for having two very different geographic regions. The Rocky Mountain region covers the western two-fifths of the state. The Yellowstone River is the longest free-flowing (undammed) river in the contiguous United States. The longest river in the U.S. by miles, the Missouri River, begins in Montana at the “Three Forks” - the intersection of the Gallatin, Madison and Jefferson Rivers.

Flathead Lake is the largest fresh water lake west of the Mississippi River.

Glacier National Park has 250 lakes in its boundaries.

The North Entrance of Yellowstone National Park, located at Gardiner, is the original entrance to the world’s first National Park when it opened.

The official State Song is "Montana" it was written by Charles C. and dates back to September 1910 and was adopted as the state song on February 20, 1945 

The three largest cities in Montana are Billings, Missoula and Great Falls

The State Motto is "Oro y plata" the State Motto is Spanish, translated it means "Gold and Silver" and is a reference to the historical impact from early mining

A brief history of Montana - In 1803, the majority of the region was subject to the Louisiana Purchase. The first permanent settlement was established in 1841. It was originally sold in glass bottles that often broke, so Perkins invented a powder instead, and Kool-Aid was born.

Nebraska is composed of two major land regions: the Dissected Till Plainsand the Great Plains. The Dissected Till Plains is a region of gently rolling hills; the state's largest cities, Omaha and Lincoln, are in this region. The Great Plains occupy most of western Nebraska, characterized by treeless prairie, suitable for cattle-grazing.

Bison were nearly wiped out in the 1800s, but some still roam today at Fort Niobrara Wildlife Refuge in north-central Nebraska. Other native mammals include pronghorns (the second fastest land mammals after cheetahs!), antelopes, coyotes, jackrabbits, and prairie dogs.

Nebraska borders five different states. It is bordered by Wyoming to the west, Iowa and Missouri to the east, South Dakota to the north, and Colorado to the south. Nebraska's nickname is the 'Cornhusker State' and their motto is 'equality before the law.' Back when the Comstock Lode was booming, Virginia City was THEplace to be, drawing some of the most famous gunslingers, ladies of the night, and even a true Millionaires Club. Nestled one mountain range east of the majestic eastern Sierra Nevada mountain range and Lake Tahoe, it wasn’t long before Samuel Clemens came to the Nevada territory, tried his hand at—then immediately gave up on—prospecting, and landed a reporting gig at Virginia City’s now-legendary Territorial Enterprisenewspaper.
